A massive thank you to everyone who stepped onto the mats for our Community Open Mat this past weekend! Whether you showed up to sharpen your Muay Thai clinching or to hunt for that elusive BJJ submission, the energy in the studio was nothing short of electric. With such an incredible turnout, the mats were packed with practitioners eager to put their hours of drilling into live practice. The extended session gave everyone the breathing room to dive deep into sparring, find new training partners, and test their skills against a wide variety of styles and techniques.
What made this event truly special wasn’t just the high-level technique on display, it was the people. We loved seeing our community come together to train side-by-side, regardless of rank, belt color, or discipline. In our gym, respect is the universal language. There is something uniquely powerful about watching a seasoned practitioner pause to help a newcomer refine their guard, or a veteran striker sharing the nuances of footwork with a beginner. Seeing our growth rooted in this kind of mutual support is exactly why we do what we do, and watching those bonds form in real-time is an incredible experience for the coaching staff.
Age is just a number
We’ve always maintained that the mats don’t care about the date on your birth certificate, and this weekend proved it beyond a shadow of a doubt. Our mats were a melting pot of generations, featuring thirteen-year-olds finding their confidence and testing their mettle alongside veterans in their fifties who are still putting in the work and proving that consistency trumps time. Whether you are fifteen or fifty-five, the goal remains exactly the same: show up, get one percent better, and impact your life for the better.
Event Highlights
The highlights of the day were found in the small moments of total inclusivity and the palpable vibe of the room. We witnessed beginners and pros sharing rounds and swapping tips, breaking down the barriers that often exist in combat sports. The atmosphere was defined by high-fives, technical flow, and a strict "zero ego" policy. We have worked hard to build a culture where the goal is to grow with your training partner rather than just at them, and the feedback we received confirms that this is exactly the environment you all want to train in. It was wonderful to see so many new faces meeting the regulars and instantly becoming a permanent part of the family.
Elite Craftsmanship
The event wouldn't have been the same without the leadership of Joao and Sergei. They commanded the floor with authority, guiding the group through a sharp warm-up and technical drills before opening up the mats for spirited sparring. The depth of their expertise was undeniable, a testament to years of disciplined practice. A huge thank you to both for their incredible effort!
If you missed out this time, don’t sweat it, well, actually, definitely plan to sweat it next time! Due to the overwhelming turnout and the incredible atmosphere you all created, we are already back in the lab planning the next event. We have taken all of your feedback to heart and aim to make the next session even more organized and impactful. Keep a close eye on your inbox and the posters at the front desk for the next date announcement.
Here are some memorable comments from our members:
“Participating in grappling has been a very interesting and rewarding experience for me. I had the opportunity to discover new techniques and develop my athletic skills in a practical and motivating way. The coach showed us new moves and techniques, clearly explaining each movement and the correct way to execute them. I believe this experience was valuable and has motivated me to continue practicing this sport.”
“I really liked it overall, especially the fact that I could spar for a long time with so many different people.”
“It was again a very nice event. I enjoyed it a lot! Very good and strong people 🙏🏻 I have to say I really like the gym in general very much, you guys created a space for people to evolve as a fighter and as a person too! Especially the sessions with Joaõ are very good and he is a great trainer and even a greater human being 💪🏽”
“I really enjoyed the event. The idea of showing people the studio and helping them connect with each other is really great, and I also thought the snacks were a nice addition. Since I trained with Sergei, I can say he did a great job. I had a lot of fun.”
See you on the mats!
